A beam type torque wrench is another popular and inexpensive torque wrench used by the backyard mechanic. Unlike the adjustable clicker type torque wrench that provides a "click" type feedback when a specific preload has been reached, the beam type torque wrench has a beam that bends in response to the torque being applied to the application. One word of caution though ... do not over-torque with a beam torque wrench or the beam will bend permanently.
